History of the Broadway Viaduct Replacement
Design of the Broadway Viaduct Replacement Project
The design and construction of the Broadway Viaduct is not part of the Valley Highway EIS Study. The viaduct replacement project was initiated several years ago to address safety concerns posed by the deteriorating condition of the existing viaduct. The planning and design process for the viaduct replacement included a public involvement process and full consideration of potential environmental concerns.

The design of the new viaduct structure was carefully considered so as not to preclude any proposed options that may result from the EIS. The viaduct, which is currently under construction, is subject to additional study during the EIS process regarding the inclusion of new access as may be suggested during development of interchange improvement alternatives.

The existing I-25 Broadway Viaduct is being replaced with a new structure which meets all current design and safety standards, such as truck clearance, twelve-foot shoulders and safer roadway curvature. The new alignment will include room for six through lanes with auxiliary lanes for merging traffic. RTD will be taking advantage of the large spaces between the new viaduct's piers to provide parking at new Broadway park-n-Ride.
